SINGAPORE, Sept. 11, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- MetaOptics Ltd (Catalist: 9MT) ("MetaOptics" or the "Company", and together with its subsidiaries, the "Group"), a leading-edge semiconductor optics company, today announced that it has entered into several placement agreements for a placement of 2,685,825 new ordinary shares in the capital of the Company ("Placement Shares"), at S$0.3912 per Placement Share, to raise gross proceeds of S$1.1 million ("Share Placement").
The placement agreements for the Share Placement were entered into following strong interest from new individual high net worth investors and existing shareholders of the Company, including high net worth investors and a corporate investor (who is also a strategic partner of the Group in equipment development). Their participation in the Share Placement reflects a strong signal of investor confidence in the Group's execution track record and commercial case for its proprietary, first-to-market automated metalens manufacturing equipment.
Proceeds to fund first-to-market full automation of metalens colour camera module production
The Group's 5-megapixel colour metalens camera module has delivered consistently good imaging performance on its pilot production line. These results support the Group's decision to advance the module to full-scale commercialisation. A portion of the Share Placement proceeds will be applied toward engaging Elsoft Research Bhd in Penang, the Group's equipment manufacturing partner, to fully automate the assembly of the metalens camera module.
The module has a maximum thickness of approximately 3mm and is built on a flexible circuit, a meaningful departure from conventional camera modules, which rely on multiple layers of thick plastic lenses to focus light. The Group's design uses a single-layer rectangular metalens to achieve 5-megapixel image quality. Management believes this architecture provides a structural cost and form-factor advantage as customer demand shifts toward smaller and lighter imaging systems.
The Group has also completed the design of a 12-megapixel variant of the module, which was undertaken in collaboration with a U.S.-based technology company, and will be commencing prototyping wafer production using titanium dioxide ("TiO2"). This extends the Group's metalens platform into higher-resolution applications and broadens its addressable market.
Proceeds to also support launch of MetaPhone, the Group's metalens-enabled 5G ultra-thin smartphone
A further portion of the proceeds will support the commercial launch of MetaPhone, the Group's metalens-enabled 5G smartphone, through a direct-to-consumer sales channel. The MetaPhone integrates a non-contact fingerprint metalens module and an ultra-thin 5-megapixel metalens camera module, and is designed without the camera bump found on conventional smartphones (https://www.yolegroup.com/player-interviews/beyond-the-camera-bump-an-interview-with-metaoptics/).
Healthy balance sheet and growing institutional interest
The Group's cash position remains healthy to fulfil its equipment purchase orders, scale its metalens fabrication processes towards supporting mass production capabilities, and support the growing pipeline of customer engagements.
In addition, following recent product and technology roadshows in the United States, several U.S.-based institutional funds specialising in deep technology investments have expressed interest in the Group's growth story and execution track record. These funds have indicated a willingness to explore various investment opportunities within and with the Group, and to support its growth plans, in respect of the establishment of the Group's maiden front-end semiconductor fabrication line with 12-inch DUV immersion photolithography equipment in the USA, for the mass production of metalenses and modules. Discussions are progressing following the execution of non-binding term sheets, which may or may not lead to entry into definitive agreements. Management views these indicative and early interests as encouraging signals of institutional interest and recognition of the Group's technology and commercial roadmap. The Company will keep its shareholders updated on a timely basis, as and when material developments arise.
Mr Thng Chong Kim, Executive Chairman said "As we execute our business growth plans, we are excited to welcome greater participation from institutional investors and Singapore-based investors, and look forward to building strong, long-term relationships with investors who share our vision and believe in the opportunities ahead."
This press release is to be read in conjunction with MetaOptics' announcement on the Share Placement released via SGXNet on 11 September 2026. The Company will make further announcement(s) to update its shareholders as and when appropriate regarding the material developments on the Share Placement.
